About Eltrombopag
Eltrombopag is used to treat thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) in adult patients with chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) who have had an inadequate response to other treatments. It is also used to treat thrombocytopenia to allow interferon-based therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C whose degree of thrombocytopenia prevents initiation of therapy, and in the treatment of severe aplasia with inadequate response to immunosuppressive therapy anemic patients.
Eltrombopag is indicated only in patients with chronic ITP who have a degree of thrombocytopenia and a clinical condition that increases the risk of bleeding. Should not be used to normalize platelet levels.
