About MOG (35-55)
Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein (MOG) is a glycoprotein believed to be important in the process of myelinization of nerves in the central nervous system (CNS). It is a transmembrane protein expressed on the surface of oligodendrocyte cell and on the outermost surface of myelin sheaths. Interest in MOG has centered on its role in demyelinating diseases, particularly multiple sclerosis (MS).
MOG (35-55) is a truncated peptide derived from human myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG). MOG is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and is expressed only in the central nervous system. In mouse and rat models of human multiple sclerosis, MOG is responsible for inducing experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis. Humoral immunity to myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) may be involved in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS).
MOG (35-55) is involved in the induction of autoantibody production and extensive plaque-like demyelination in relapsing-remitting neurological diseases. MOG (35-55) peptide induces severe chronic experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in HLA-DR2 transgenic mice. MOG (35-55) is highly encephalitogenic and can induce strong responses in rat T and B cells.
