About Teriparatide
Teriparatide stimulates bone formation and bone resorption, reduces the incidence of fractures in postmenopausal women, and can increase or decrease bone density, depending on how it is administered. Continuous infusion results in sustained increases in parathyroid hormone (PTH) concentrations and therefore produces greater bone resorption than daily injections, which cause only transient increases in serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) concentrations.
Teriparatide is a parathyroid hormone analogue and is currently a representative drug that promotes bone formation. Intermittent use of low-dose parathyroid hormone analogs can stimulate osteoblast activity, promote bone formation, increase bone density, improve bone quality, and reduce the risk of vertebral and non-vertebral fractures. Teriparatide is indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women who are at high risk of fractures.
