About Vapreotide
Vapreotide retains the active center of somatostatin and is a cyclic octapeptide somatostatin analogue with intramolecular disulfide bonds. Compared with somatostatin, vapreotide has higher metabolic stability, and its biological half-life is greatly prolonged (~90min). Vapreotide is the first somatostatin analogue to show the effect of treating acute variceal bleeding. It can produce specific organ vasoconstriction, which can be effectively used for hemostasis of acute gastrointestinal bleeding.
Vapreotide, a cyclic octapeptide, is a synthetic somatostatin analog that inhibits the secretion of growth hormone, insulin, glucagon, and prolactin. It can reduce portal hypertension, reduce portal collateral blood flow, and is used to treat esophageal variceal bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis, without the systemic vasoconstriction effect caused by the use of vasopressin.
