Borassus flabellifer

Borassus flabellifer, also called the Palmyra palm, is the most common palm tree in Mumbai.It is strong and healthy, and can live 100 years or more and get to a height of 30 meters, with a canopy of leaves several dozen fronds spreading 3 meters across. The large burlywood is similar to that of the coconut tree and is full of leaf scars. Young palmyra palms grow lentamente at the outset but then grow faster. It is a fascinating landscape species under its growth pattern, large size, and clean habitus.
