What is Carrot seed oil?

Carrot seed oil is an essential oil extract steam distilled from the seeds of the wild carrot plant - Duacus carota, also known as Queen Anne’s lace with hairy leaves and lacy white flowers. The main constituent of carrot seed oil is the sesquiterpene alcohol carotol, which may be present in over 50 % concentration. Often as essential oil, carrot seed oil may be found in many formulas dealing with skin conditions ranging from revitalising and toning to eczema and ageing. With a formative effect on the epidermal skin cells, carrot seed oil stimulates cell growth and is thus an excellent ingredient to use in products aimed to rejuvenate tired, aged, dehydrated and damaged skin, as well as traumatized skin. Since Carrot seed oil contains carotene, Vitamin A, it is also very good for healthy skin, hair, gums and teeth. Further, carrot seed oil is said to balance both dry and oily complexions.
